PRE-REQUISITE: FOUNDATIONS OF SOWA RIGPA

Sowa Rigpa Counselor program is a two-year (including Foundations year) professional training in a unique and dynamic form of counseling grounded in Sowa Rigpa, Buddhist practice (Yuthok Nyingthig), and contemporary psychotherapeutic theories and practices.

COURSE FORMAT:

- 36 weekly classes
- Approximately 3 hours prerecorded lecture + 3 hour live online class each week on Tuesdays
- Optional in-person 5-day retreat on the topics of dream yoga and a metaphor-focused experiential collaborative practice
- Students also must complete an independent personal research project which is presented to the class at the end of the third trimester

Over 36 classes, the following topics are covered (some topics are covered in one week, others, multiple weeks). Most modules are co-taught by Dr. Nida Chenagtsang and Dr. Caroline Van Damme, with some guest presenters

–Intro to Western Psychology and intro to Sorig Counseling. Intake forms + 5-doors Mandala of Counseling.
–Perinatal Mental Health and intro Sorig Embryology
–Attachment theory. Practical workshops on creating secure attachments using meditation.
–Trauma. Preliminary meditation practices, discussion of La energy, dzogrim and tummo therapy.
–Western mind-body and psychosomatic concepts; Sorig Illusory Disorders, dön/provocation disorders
–Family therapy
–Anxiety
–Eating Disorders
–Addiction
–Mood disorders + Sorig Humoral afflictive emotions
–Illusory Body + Personality Disorders
–Dharma practice and mental health
–Psychosis, dön provocation disorders

–Burnout
–Sleep and intro to Dream Analysis

and:
–3 sessions devoted to case studies and supervision
–6 sessions devoted to student presentations of personal projects
